You may have heard a lot about rich snippets. What is it exactly? In this article, we'll briefly explain Google rich snippets, especially the review snippet. Adding your reviews to Google review snippet is available in both our Free and Awesome plan.

What is Rich Snippet?

A snippet is a result Google shows to its users in the search results. A rich snippet (or rich result) shows extra information between the URL and the description. For example, here is a result when we search for "tiramisu recipe", Google will show pictures and reviews of the tiramisu, the time needed to make the tiramisu and its kcal, and so on.

If you want to display rich snippets in Google search results, you need to add structured data to your pages. Structured data is a standardized format for providing information about a page and classifying the page content; for example, on a recipe page, what are the ingredients, the cooking time and temperature, the calories, and so on.

There are three structured data formats (learn more about each format here):

  • JSON-LD* (Recommended)
  • Microdata
  • RDFa

You can use Google's Rich Results Test to test if your structured data is eligible for the rich results.

What is Review Snippet?

A review snippet is a short excerpt of a review or a rating from a review website, usually an average of the combined rating scores from many reviewers. When Google finds valid reviews or rating markup, we may show a rich snippet that includes stars and other summary info from reviews or ratings. In addition to the text of the review, a rating is an evaluation described on a numeric scale (such as 1 to 5).

SEO Rich Snippets will show a graphical star rating, the aggregated rating, and the number of reviews/ratings, for example:

Judge.me product supports adding your aggregate product reviews in both formats: Microdata and JSON-LD. We also integrate with many SEO third-party apps to help you display your review snippet better. Check this helpdesk article to learn how to enable your review snippet in Judge.me.
